Tornado Towers

If you lived in the Mankato, MN area in the 70's and 80's you were well aware of this landmark.

In about 1971 some guy had the brilliant idea that this concept was the wave of the future.

People would purchase a mobile home and a crane would slide it between the concrete supports. Then when they wanted to move, a crane would drag it out of it's nest and they would put wheels under it and haul it to it's next concrete and tin highrise.

Well, the idea flopped. Once those babies were put in they stayed until they fell apart and torn down by the city.

I will say that I knew someone who rented one while we were going to college. They were pretty nice inside until the winds blew. At that point it got interesting. They would shake, rattle and almost roll. Propped fifty feet in the air made the pucker factor rise several notches.

About the only thing nice about that place was the fact that all you had to say was Tornado Towers and everyone knew what part of town you were talking about.

Thanks to my brother-in-law Chris for sending me this picture to show you.

Bath Update- I Finally Took One!

I find bathing important, so I try to do that once a week if necessary.

All joking aside, if you follow this exciting blog full of real life tales, you know that we are remodeling three of our bathrooms. The one getting the most attention is the one on the main floor.

Here is a picture that was taken as we started tearing it up.

Since then, we have made some progress.....

If we can find the time, two full days should finish it. But then again, why rush? The toilet and sinks work just fine!

Wrestle Mania!

Winter season sports are in full swing and that includes rassalin.

Our nephew Jack, son of Chris and Joyce, is turning out to be a heck of a good grappler.

He reminds me of a buddy of mine who I went to high school with, Joe Corso from West Des Moines, Iowa. He even made the Olympic team but did not get to compete because of political unrest.

Enough of that, there was no unrest at Jack's latest series of matches, except for mom who may have worried a bit seeing all those kids slammed about. Personally, I think it builds character!

Anyway, Jack won ALL his matches and received the gold medal.

And Now, our future Olympian!

Blessed In Minnesota

BLESSED MINNESOTA

On the sixth day God turned to the Archangel Gabriel and said: 'Today, I am
going to create a land called Minnesota. It will be a land of outstanding
natural beauty; a land of 10,000 beautiful lakes, each one full of fish. It
shall have tall majestic pines, peacefully flowing rivers, landscapes full of
buffalo, tall grass, and eagles, beautiful blue skies, forests full of bear, elk
and moose, rich farmland and fair skinned people.' God continued, 'I
shall make the land rich in resources so as to make the inhabitants prosper and
they shall be known as a most friendly people, people who practice being
Minnesota Nice every day.'

But Lord,' asked Gabriel, 'don't you think you are being too
generous to these Minnesotans?'

'Not really,' replied God 'just wait and see the winters I am going
to give them.'

AND NOW YOU KNOW

How very true!

But really, if you overlook half the year we are truly blessed to have six months of nice weather.

Now that I think about it, we are truly blessed to have three months of really nice weather that we can enjoy. We had to subtract three months because the Minnesota State Bird, the mosquito, tends to scare us inside.

All joking aside, (who is joking), we can be thankful for our clean air and water...Except for the one month that it floods because of the Spring snow melt.

Oh yes, we have a beautiful fall season as evidenced by these pictures I took at sunset during our three days of Fall this past year.

The camera was busy Christmas Eve at Bob and Molly's home.

I have for your viewing pleasure, another round of pictures.

Now how fun was that? This is a great group of people to be around and I would even claim a few of them as family!

Perry Como

I know I am going to date myself....but here goes anyway.

The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle
And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle
Like a beautiful child, growing up, free an' wild
Full of hopes an' full of fears, full of laughter, full of tears
Full of dreams to last the years, in Seattle
. . . in Seattle

Perry (The singing barber) would roll over in his grave if he could see these pictures:

Thanks you Sarah for the updated pictures. These pictures were taken this past weekend when Seattle received another winter punch below the belt.
