Bathroom Update

One of this winter's projects is to remodel our upstairs bathroom. The tongue and groove knotty pine ceiling is almost up. That will be completed this weekend after we stain and varnish it.

The only outside labor we hire out is plumbing. We leave that task to the experts so that the job is done right.

Our trusty plumber, Craig, the owner of ACE Plumbing was out today and fixed us up with new shower/tub and sink hardware.

Of course, the access panel for the tub was not large enough, so I got out my trusty keyhole saw and started hacking away.

I will have to make an access panel so the big hole in the wall is covered.

Craig also installed shut off valves under the sink and a new faucet.

No runs, leaks or errors....Great job Craig!

Thanksgiving.....And No Bird!

One would think that with hundreds of turkeys running around Coyote Ridge we would have turkey for Thanksgiving. That was not the case.
Two weeks ago we had a fabulous turkey dinner at Sue's brother's home. Molly and Harv cooked the 25 pound bird and it was fantastic.
On Thanksgiving we decided to be non-traditional and make some heritage food.
In keeping with Harv's Slovakian background we had.........
Porgies....mashed potatoes and cheese wrapped in a pasta dough then boiled and served with onions and butter sauce.

Then there was the boneless pork that was made in the crock pot and slow cooked all day served with sauerkraut.

Molly and Harv made the most delicious halupkies....ground sirloin, rice and spices wrapped in cabbage served with a tomato sauce.

Rounding out the meal we had a nice relish tray, special bread and three different kinds of pie.

What a GREAT meal!
I think Sue, Molly, Harv, Ben and Anna all agreed.

It Is Soup Time Again

With winter knocking on our doorstep, Sue hunkered down in the kitchen for a time late Sunday afternoon. This soup making session involved White Chicken Chili.
The ingredients include chick peas, lots of white chicken, cheese, milk, green chilies, tomatoes, onions, garlic, chicken broth, flour and some ingredients Sue would not divulge.

And now....the finished product.....

More About The Hose

Several days ago I wrote a story about getting a colonoscpy. Actually, Dave Barry, the syndicated columnist wrote the article.
I could not help myself and just had to share this with you.
Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous..... A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies:

1. 'Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before!

2. 'Find Amelia Earhart yet?'

3. 'Can you hear me NOW?'

4. 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?'

5. 'You know, in Arkansas , we're now legally married.'

6. 'Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?'

7. 'You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out...'

8. 'Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!'

9. 'If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit!

10. 'Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity.'

11. 'You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?'

And the best one of all.

12. 'Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?'

Here We Go Again!

Winter time is project time out here at Coyote Ridge. We are keeping to tradition and have at least one major project that has made it from the drawing board to semi-reality.
Last winter we completely re-did the main floor bath. Today we started the demo work on the second floor bath.
Here are a few pictures of the process.

We will be installing ceramic tile above the shower.

The ceiling will be tongue and groove cedar.

We will be installing all new tub and sink water fixtures as well as counter tops. A new mirror and light fixtures should finish off the project....hopefully by Christmas. I will update you along the way, as we make progress.

You Are Going To Stick That Hose Where?

If you are over 50 years old you probably know where I am going (and the hose also) with my headline.
Being the recipient of more than one colonoscopy over the years, I am all to familiar with the somewhat dreaded procedure....after all, where the hose goes is usually an exit, not an entrance.

One of my favorite writers, Dave Barry, wrote this story several years ago, and I wanted to pass it along for some education and humor.

Enjoy the read....it is worth it!
