Camping and Geocaching

This past weekend we loaded up the camper and headed to Camden State Park near Marshall,MN. This is a great park with very private campsites and beautiful scenery.

We backed the rig in and hooked up the electric....pretty smooth so far, huh?

After a bit, I discovered the microwave clock was not on. I tried the TV to no avail, yet the lights worked as did the stereo-CD player. Hmmmmm, must be an electrical problem.

I checked the 30 amp plug outside and discovered the breaker was tripped. I also learned that the plug on the end of the RV card was broken and probably was causing the system to short out. But it worked fine when I first plugged it in.

One may panic at the thought of no electricity, but we took that as a challenge to "boondock".....that is using no outside utilities and being totally self sufficient.

We have a 12 volt on board system that will power our lights, stereo and on board water system. No problem....we did not need the air conditioning or TV so we were all set.

Our hot water heater is gas as is our fridge and freezer. They operate on gas or electric. The oven and stove are also gas.

To make a long story short, we did just fine and when we left, after two days, our 12 volt system still was 3/4 charged.

Once some free time arrives, I will cut the plug off the umbilical cord and wire a new one on. I am 90 per cent sure that is the problem.

We spent most of Saturday geocaching and will have pictures soon.

Tune in again real soon for another edition of "Now What Are They Doing?"
