The Bathroom is Done!

This winter we set out to remodel one of our bathrooms. Last winter we did the first one with a goal of doing the second one this winter and the third bathroom next winter.

Today we completed bathroom number two when we the hung the oak cabinet above the toilet. We had a heck of time finding just the right one. Saturday we found the cabinet at Menards Home Center. All we had to do was stain and varnish it before hanging it on the wall.

We installed ceramic tile in the shower, installed new plumbing controls in the tub-shower and the sink, painted the walls and installed a pine tongue and groove ceiling.

The pictures don't do it justice, but you will get the general idea.









Two down...one to go!

Bathroom Update

One of this winter's projects is to remodel our upstairs bathroom. The tongue and groove knotty pine ceiling is almost up. That will be completed this weekend after we stain and varnish it.

The only outside labor we hire out is plumbing. We leave that task to the experts so that the job is done right.

Our trusty plumber, Craig, the owner of ACE Plumbing was out today and fixed us up with new shower/tub and sink hardware.


Of course, the access panel for the tub was not large enough, so I got out my trusty keyhole saw and started hacking away.


I will have to make an access panel so the big hole in the wall is covered.

Craig also installed shut off valves under the sink and a new faucet.


No runs, leaks or errors....Great job Craig!

Here We Go Again!

Winter time is project time out here at Coyote Ridge. We are keeping to tradition and have at least one major project that has made it from the drawing board to semi-reality.
Last winter we completely re-did the main floor bath. Today we started the demo work on the second floor bath.
Here are a few pictures of the process.



We will be installing ceramic tile above the shower.

The ceiling will be tongue and groove cedar.

We will be installing all new tub and sink water fixtures as well as counter tops. A new mirror and light fixtures should finish off the project....hopefully by Christmas. I will update you along the way, as we make progress.

Chili and Trim

Sunday, Sue spent a few hours in the kitchen whipping up another batch of her famous chili. With seven different kinds of beans, this is soup to die for.
When it was all said and done, she had made enough for 18 meals. Nothing better than coming home from work and having supper already prepared!


While the queen of soup was whipping up another culinary masterpiece, I was out in the workshop painting the chair rail trim for the main floor bath. I had already primed it, now it just needed it's customary two coats of paint.

All that we have left to do on the bathroom project is the floor trim and the chair rail trim above the beadboard. Once that is done, we will tackle two more bathrooms.

I do like this daylight savings time. As I write this, it is 7:15pm and it is still light outside. I may change my tune in the morning as I drive to work in the dark.

Bath Update-Again

Will we ever finish the bath on the main floor? I am in no hurry as the water works, toilet and shower are operational and it gives me something to write about.

Anyway, someone asked me how the project was coming along so I snapped a few pictures for you.

We still have to put the bead board or wainscoting on the bottom part of the walls, floor trim and trim around the back splash.

Bath Update- I Finally Took One!

I find bathing important, so I try to do that once a week if necessary.

All joking aside, if you follow this exciting blog full of real life tales, you know that we are remodeling three of our bathrooms. The one getting the most attention is the one on the main floor.

Here is a picture that was taken as we started tearing it up.


Since then, we have made some progress.....






If we can find the time, two full days should finish it. But then again, why rush? The toilet and sinks work just fine!

Catching Up

It has been a few days since I sat down at the keyboard and pecked out a story, so I thought I had better get my act together.

As you know, Thursday after work I went in for my flu shot. It may take me a few days to live that one down.

Friday I had a business meeting in Owatonna, MN for a special event we are holding in August, 2009. It will be our annual Red Cross-Sheriff's Posse Motorcycle Ride. We have anywhere from 500 to 800 cyclists and tour a seven county area of beautiful Minnesota. We raise some money and have a great time.

Saturday was a lay low day. That is very unusual for us but we decided we needed to charge our batteries for a day. It was wonderful!

Sunday we did a few small projects around the house then we went over to Sue's folks house and fixed a toilet. It needed new insides and works great once again.

Those that know Sue are aware of her many talents...one of those talents just happens to be plumbing.

It has been a cold weekend here. Just five days ago we had highs in the mid 70's. We had light snow Friday morning and Sue caught some digital scenes before the sun came up that morning.


Today's high was only 25 degrees so now there is little doubt that winter is upon us.

We spent part of the day today planning for our main floor bathroom remodel. We would like to re-do all three bathrooms....one at a time thank you very much.
