Wrap Up The Weekend

Here the new week is almost over and I am still talking about last weekend. I kind of like the weekend thing all week long!

While eating breakfast Sunday morning I took a few pictures from the kitchen table in the camper to the outside to show our proximity to the lake.




We pulled up stakes and dumped the holding tanks and we were off towards home. What a beautiful drive as the trees are really beginning to strut their stuff.






And finally...Our country lane and home sweet home!

Wonderful Weekend Continued

Saturday continued with great weather and adventure.



Here in Minnesota we can really feel Fall in the air. We have only had scattered light frost, not a killing frost....yet.

Of course, the farmers are busy in their fields harvesting the beans and some corn.



Saturday afternoon we covered a lot of ground, seeing lots of cool things. We even hit a few rummage sales and picked up some of those "must have" items. Sue found a really neat book on the history of Route 66. It is a great book with lots of color pictures following the historic highway from Illinois to California. It sold for nearly $30 and the owner was asking $2. I offered her a dollar....SOLD!

We headed back to our little house on wheels in time to catch a few fish.



While we were fishing we noticed a sailboat being launched from the boat launch. It was a bit breezy that day....great for taking the "Sloop John B" out on the lake.



Have I mentioned yet that we had a great time?

After a full day we wanted something quick and easy to eat for supper so I rubbed a few sticks together and started a campfire for the hot dogs.



Once again....delicious!

The sun was setting and it looked like another good photo opportunity. Sue grabbed the camera and did her thing.



Friday night was a chilly one with low of about 40 degrees. Saturday night was warmer with lows in the low 50's and a quick thunderstorm just before sunrise. By 8 am the sun was out making way for a beautiful day in the mid 60's.

Saturday's Big Adventure

Oh what a life! We slept in getting up at the crack of nine. Sue cooked up a big breakfast consisting of eggs,sausage, pancakes and coffee.

Just before we took off for some late season garage saling and exploring, Sue caught this while pelican in the viewfinder of the camera.



Before leaving the campground we shot a few pictures of some great scenery.






No sooner had we left the campground we caught another photo opportunity. We stumbled upon a small wine vineyard.




Just down the road was an old barn that had seen better days. I just hate seeing old farm buildings that are neglected.

In so many areas of Minnesota we see wind power popping up. There is a good reason that Minnesota is the second largest producer of wind energy.

These two windmills are near Winnebago, MN and help produce electricity for an ethanol plant.


Wind energy sure makes sense to me and I am pleased every time I see these babies producing power for us.

Great Weekend....We Love Fall

We had another great weekend....great weather and beautiful scenery.

We hitched up the rig and took off as soon as Sue arrived home from work.


Those of you who know me understand that I like lots of excitement. That is true except when I am towing something. I am happy to say that the trip pulling the rig was uneventful.

We backed into the very private site and set everything up and Sue prepared supper while I grilled some hamburgers and took some pictures for you.





As usual, the food was GREAT. Why is it that cooking while camping tastes sooo good?

That pretty much sums up the first part of our adventure, at least the Friday portion of it. Lots more to come, I promise, so stop in again real soon for another edition of "Now What Are They Doing?"

Figured Out

Ok now ladies and gents. I am not sure if this post is going to be a rant or a rave. Lets reserve that opinion for later.

Here is the story. Our son Ben was at my office this week saving us from our computers when we started talking about high definition TV. Both of us have them but Ben has cable HD and I have non HD satellite. Of course he was going on and on telling me how good HD was knowing full well that his talk was going to drive me to get HD.

As he KNEW it would, I did.

I called my provider and said I wanted HD but did not want to pay extra for it. After they quit laughing, they told me it would cost an extra $10 per month on top of what I think is an already inflated cost for what I have.

So I called the competition and said I wanted at least 200 channels. I like lots of channels so that it takes me longer to discover that there is nothing on that I like. Anyway....I said I wanted HD plus the TV stations in Minneapolis-ST. Paul that carried all the major networks.

No problem they said. They gave me a price and I said it was too high. I told them what I wanted to pay and after some hem-hawing around they agreed. We set up the installation date and time and all was well...so I thought.

I got thinking about the deal and called them the next morning and asked them to read back to me all the details of the package and extras. Low and behold, they did not mention the networks from the Twin Cities. I asked about that and they said "you can't get those, they are not available in your area."

That was not the right thing to say....I told them to cancel my order and I called my current provider knowing that the Twin Cities channels were available. I said I wanted to cancel because their competition offered me a better price. That is the truth, as they did cut me a heck of a deal.

Well, they caved in and were falling all over themselves trying to make me happy.

Out of the deal they gave me 250 channels, High Definition, a DVR, free service plan and two receivers for less than I am paying now...VICTORY!

So there Ben.....are you happy now?

Getting Ready To Take Off

Oh Man....It's Friday and all is good! I have a few seconds to write before Sue arrives home and we can take off for the weekend.

I was out of town early this week for a state meeting "up North" as we say here in Minnesota. We had state meetings and a nice going away party for my good friend Roger D. who is retiring after 30+ years with the company.

We had a nice little party for him one night and had a great time roasting him and showering him with gag gifts.

Here are a few pictures....all innocent so none of us can be incriminated.

Speaking of fishing....we have a great spot reserved on Lura lake for the weekend. Just out the door of our camper will be the lake about 20 feet away. I hope the fish are as excited as we are.

Our oldest son Ben is celebrating his 30th birthday Saturday. My, where did the years go? We are very proud of him and feel blessed that he turned out to be such a fine person. We are getting together next week to celebrate with he and his wife Anna. Those two are something else! All good of course.

Oh My...I Sure Hope I Am Remembered In A Better Light!

Sorry about the lack of words and pictures. I have been out of town on business for a few days and have just returned.

We are going camping this weekend and are very excited about it. We absolutely love Fall camping with highs near 60 and lows in the 40's....PERFECT!

Sue sent me this email and picture of an obit that started out pretty normal, but went downhill fast.

Now on to better news. Um....OK let me think.

The Fall weather here in Minnesota has been beautiful. While I was out of town Sue saw a momma turkey and 10 of her offspring in the yard, not once but twice. I wonder what we are having for Thanksgiving this year? Just kidding, at last count there were still 11 turkeys in that group.
